HARIPUR: Former district nazim Haripur and PTI’s local leader Akhtar Nawaz Khan Jadoon was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyards of Bagra here on Wednesday. He was 63.

Family sources said that Akhtar Nawaz Khan was diagnosed with lung cancer two months back and was under treatment when his condition deteriorated further last week and was shifted to Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, where he breathed his last during the early hours of Wednesday.

He has left behind a widow three daughters and two sons to mourn his death.

Akhtar Nawaz Khan served as member district council from the introduction of revised local government system during Gen Musharaf’s era till the abolition of district councils after his election from his native area of Bagra Durakhshel.

He contested for the provincial assembly seat thrice and later for the office of tehsil chairman Haripur, but lost.

His namaz-i-janaza was attended by Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, MNA Ali Khan Jadoon, former MNA Dr Raja Amir Zaman, provincial minister Arshad Ayub Khan, former provincial minister Yousuf Ayub Khan, MPA Malik Adeel Khan, chairmen of different village councils, lawyers and his supporters.
