RAWALPINDI: The district administration and local police have chalked out a plan in Rawalpindi to ensure a safe and secure environment during Eidul Fitr.

As per the plan, more than 5000 police officials will be deployed in different parts of the district.

According to a police spokesperson, special security arrangements have been made for Eid gatherings at more than 700 mosques, Imambargahs and open places.

More than 600 officials of the traffic police will perform duties to maintain traffic flow across the city during Eid days. He said that special pickets of traffic police have been set up to prevent the illegal practice of wheelie on busy roads.

More than 600 police officers will be deployed for the security of public places, parks and cemeteries.

As many as 30 special pickets have been set up to prevent any untoward situation on the Chand Raat and more than 400 policemen will perform duties at special pickets.

Elite Force commandos, Dolphin Force personnel and other security agencies will also perform duties.

On the occasion of Eidul Fitr and Chand Raat, police stations’ mobile and motorcycle squads will carry out special patrol duties in their respective area.

“All resources will be utilised for foolproof security arrangements on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. The safety of life and property of citizens is the top priority, which will be ensured,” said City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Commissioner Amir Khattak presided over a meeting to review arrangements for Eidul Fitr.

The review meeting held at the commissioner’s office in Rawalpindi was attended by Rawalpindi Development Authority Director General (DG) Kanzi Murtaza, Parks and Horticulture DG Ahmed Hassan Ranjha and other heads of government departments.

He said that the deputy commissioners should complete all arrangements to ensure maximum security.

He directed that all departments should issue duty rosters and ensure the attendance of the staff deployed.

An emergency will be declared in hospitals during Eid days and section 144 will be imposed along the banks of rivers and streams to prevent swimming. Rescue teams are to be deployed on the banks of the river to deal with any emergency.

The fitness of swings in recreational spaces should ensured and no one should be allowed to operate faulty equipment without a fitness certificate, the commissioner said. Mr Khattak added that special steps should be taken to maintain traffic flow so that citizens do not face any problems.

“Cleanliness arrangements should be up to the mark in markets, entertainment places and mosques,” he said.
