China has reacted to a series of attacks by the Houthis targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman, Al Jazeera reports.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called for “dialogue” and said “China opposes any action that escalates the situation in the Red Sea”.

The Houthis had claimed an hours-long drone and missile attack against the Red Sea-based US aircraft carrier, the second in as many days.

The US, which has been carrying out air raids on Yemen, brushed off the attack, with an official saying US forces intercepted 11 Houthi drones that remained far from the carrier.
