DADU: A large gang of heavily armed highwaymen shot dead a police constable and wounded two other men when they put up resistance to the violent outlaws at Dhamrah Wah on Indus Highway in the jurisdiction of Thariri Mohabbat police station, 10 kilometres from Mehar town, on Monday.

When the dacoits beat up women after they reacted to their violent snatching of ornaments, some male passengers tried to stop them, which triggered the dacoits and they opened fire at them, killing the police constable and injuring two others, who were travelling in a Dadu-Larkana coach.

The victims were identified as Ghulam Abbas Mangsi, the policeman, a resident of Jhal Magsi town, coach passenger Khalid Rahojo, and a car driver Misri Khan Jatoi. The injured and the bodies were brought to Mehar taluka hospital by passengers.

Back to Mehar town, Ms Shahzadi Brohi told local media persons, that when she resisted the robbers snatching off their bangles and rings they beat het up with rifle butts, kicks and fists.

She said that they carried out the robbery for three hours but no police patrol reached there during that time.

Relatives of the deceased constable and the robbed passengers placed the body on the highway after receiving it from Mehar taluka hospital in protest against the robbery. Jamshoro SSP Siddiq Zaffar Chhnaga later persuaded them to end the protest.
