LAHORE: Police arrested on Saturday a seven-member gang, including three women, involved in honey trapping young people.

Model Town SP Ikhlaq Ahmad Tarar told a press conference that the women used social media to befriend young people and lured them to some apartments under pretenses.

He said the gang members approached the apartment and first assaulted the victims and filmed them in objectionable positions. He said the gang was involved in demanding huge sums of money from targets and also threatened them for leaking their footage. The arrested suspects were identified as Asim, Waqas, Ahmed, Abrar, Noreen, Kiran and Fariha.

The suspects had targeted over a dozen individuals, while police also recovered seven mobile phones, handcuffs, a pistol and Rs55,000 from them.

Suspect Asim was a junior clerk in the police department, and Waqas a former Dolphin official.

The SP announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for Kot Lakhpat police station officials for busting the gang. The police also registered a case against the suspects.
