SARGODHA: A man set his brother’s wife on fire for honour by dousing her with oil on the International Women’s Day — Saturday.

The victim, 23-year-old Nida Bibi, succumbed to her injuries after being shifted to a hospital in Faisalabad.

According to sources, Tauqir Abbas allegedly found objectionable material on Nida’s mobile phone in Fatehabad village, Bhalwal, and set her ablaze.

The Bhalwal Saddar police took the body into custody and registered a murder case on the complaint of her father, Muhammad Mumtaz.

A case under Section 302/436 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered, and an investigation is underway to locate the suspect.

TRIPLE MURDER SUSPECT: A man accused of killing his widowed sister-in-law and her two daughters over a property dispute was killed in an alleged police encounter after being freed by accomplices.

Sources said police were taking the suspect to a place to recover the weapon when five people riding motorcycles intercepted police and helped the suspect, Taimur, escape custody near Bahk Mekan in Jhal Chakian.

The suspect and his alleged accomplices opened fire on police while fleeing. Later, Taimur was found dead along a drainage canal, allegedly shot by his accomplices.

Taimur, along with his sons, had killed his brother’s widow and her two daughters in Chak 103, seriously injuring three others. He was in police remand for the triple murder case when his gang freed him.

Police have launched a manhunt for the accomplices.

In another case, Sajid, an alleged wanted criminal involved in robbery, extortion, murder, and attempted murder, was killed in a reported police encounter in Miani.

The Miani station house officer said Sajid, a key operative of a notorious gang, was planning a major crime when police intercepted him. During a confrontation on the highway, he was killed by the firing of his accomplices while resisting arrest.

The SHO said those sheltering criminals would also be brought to justice.
