MIRPURKHAS: Scores of people belonging to the Kachhi community held a noisy protest demonstration on Tuesday along with civil society activists and local Sindh United Party (SUP) leaders over, what they believed, ‘enforced disappearance’ of a Kachhi community member in Lahore.

The angry protesters assembled at Market Chowk and marched up to the Mirpurkhas Press Club raising slogans for the “release of Oam Parkash” who, they claimed, was whisked away by unknown security officials while he was busy getting his papers cleared at Wagah border for onward journey to India.

Led by Dr Nirmala Kachhi, sister of Oam Parkash, the protesters demanded an inquiry into the incident and action against those who took him away.

SUP leader Lala Azhar Pathan, Wajid Leghari, Faqeer Sheva Ram Kachhi and others also demanded immediate recovery of Mr Parkash.

They said the victim was not wanted in any known criminal case yet he was whisked away, apparently by security officials, from the immigration counter at the Wagah border.

Dr Nirmala said that her brother’s intended journey was pilgrimage. She told the local media personnel that she was accompanying her brother when the incident took place.
