RAWALPINDI: The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a warning about the spread of pollen in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, advising patients to remain cautious until the third week of March. Pollen levels are expected to peak during this period.

Paper Mulberry pollen dominates the air in Islamabad, accounting for 97% of total pollen remaining 3% constitutes Acacia, Eucalyptus, Pines, Grasses, Cannabis, Dandelion and Alternaria..

The pollen concentration gradually increases with the onset of spring season and attains its peak around full bloom of flowers. Pollen season typically ends by mid-April.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has installed surveillance devices in various sectors of Islamabad including H-8, E-8, F-10 and G-6 to monitor airborne pollen levels. People with asthma and respiratory diseases are severely impacted by the surge in pollen concentrations.

For pollen count queries, contact PMD at 051-9250364, 051-9250745 or emailpollen@pmd.gov.pk.

If you’re an asthma or respiratory disease patient, it’s essential to take precautions, as the surge in pollen concentrations can severely impact your health. To stay informed, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) will provide daily updates on pollen concentration data on their website and through media outlets.

Health experts suggest that rain in this season can provide temporary relief for asthma and pollen allergy patients. However, pollen counts usually increase after rain, so it’s crucial to remain cautious.

“Allergies will get better as the dust settles, easing the problems for patients,” a senior doctor of Holy Family Hospital ,said.

However, he said that after rain, pollencount usually increases and it’s high time for pollen and asthma patients to remain cautious and covered their nose and mouth with face masks. He said that thepollenallergy patients usually suffered till the end of April but this year was better for thepollenallergy patients.
