LAKKI MARWAT: The police registered a case against a citizen under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) on Sunday for uploading an inappropriate video on social media against the clerics in Bannu.

A police official said that Abrar, a resident of Mamashkhel area, had uploaded a video on social media wherein he allegedly used unbecoming language against ulema for not announcing moon sighting for Ramazan.

He said that Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Quraishi, head of prayer leaders, brought the matter into the notice of the Saddar police whereupon a legal action was initiated.

Maulana Quraishi, who is the complainant in the FIR, told the police that Abrar had condemned the clerics for not announcing the fasting month. ”He could be heard as saying that the moon is of two days and the ulema of Bannu and Pakistan have deprived us (faithful) of the first fast,” he claimed. The police said that further investigation was underway.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP: A good number of people, especially students, joined a blood donation camp held at Shaheed Abid Ali Chowk in Lakki Marwat on Sunday.

A local non-governmental organisation, Lakki Marwat Organisation for Resilience (LMOR), organised the camp aiming to promote blood donation.

LMOR representative Shakir Uzair said that the camp was held under the community development initiative where blood was successfully collected from willing donors. He said that a community awareness session was also held to highlight the importance of blood donation in saving lives.

“Additionally, our team conducted a comprehensive data collection exercise, gathering valuable insights on the local demographics, healthcare needs, and infrastructure,” he maintained.

ELECTED: A senior subject specialist, Taj Mohammad Khan, and subject specialist, Hidayatullah Khan, affiliated with progressive panel, were elected as president and general secretary, respectively, of All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Subject Specialists’ Association, Lakki Marwat chapter, on Sunday.

Elections were held under a caretaker setup headed by a retired principal, Waris Khan. The candidates backed by progressive and revolutionist panels were in the run for the slots of president and general secretary of the association.

Taj Mohammad Khan and Hidayatullah secured 205 votes, while Mohammad Iqbal Khan and Dr Hafiz Gulbaz Khan of the revolutionist panel grabbed 41 votes.

Other office-bearers of the association were also affiliated with progressive panel.

They included Mohammad Irfanullah (senior vice-president), Abdul Wahid, Kalimulah and Shahana Tamkanat (vice-presidents), Ihsanullah (deputy general secretary), Tariq Aziz (joint secretary), Shaukatullah (finance secretary), Mohammad Burhan (press secretary) and patron-in-chief Wajeehullah.
