It was a warm and cloudy Sunday evening. My family was preparing a surprise birthday party for my sister, who was turning 20. The whole family was gathered at home and my sister was at her friend’s house, oblivious to the preparation. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and it was very lively.

My parents, who were entertaining all the people and preparing food, asked me to get the cake from a nearby bakery. I gladly agreed and got ready to go to the bakery. Upon reaching there, I chose a delicious chocolate cake. My mouth was watering just by looking at it. I quickly headed back home and soon I was in front of my apartment. There was a rock on the ground that I didn’t notice and suddenly I tripped, the cake falling with me. A wave of embarrassment and anxiety washed over me as I clumsily sat up to check if the cake was ruined or not. It was completely ruined. I tried to keep my cool as I thought about what to do, but my heart raced so fast.

Feeling anxious and frustrated with myself, I thought about how I could fix this mess, although it wasn’t my fault. I suddenly had a spontaneous idea — to bake the cake. I did not want my parents to know so I ran to our neighbour, Aunty Amna, in a hurry. When Aunty Amna opened the door. I quickly told her that I had caused a bit of a ruckus and needed her help to bake another cake. She quickly agreed, noticing my distress.

Aunty Amna agreed to help me, and together, we quickly took charge of the situation in the kitchen. Thankfully, she had all the necessary ingredients, but the real challenge was that we only had an hour.

As time passed, we finally finished making the new chocolate cake. I added some colourful sprinkles and carefully wrote “Happy Birthday” on it with icing. Stepping back, I looked at the cake, a sense of pride washing over me.

I felt incredibly grateful to my neighbour Aunty Amna, who helped as if it were her own responsibility. Without her, I wouldn’t have made it in time. I stammered some apologies to her for causing all this trouble, but she smiled and told me to go home quickly before the party started.

I ran back home with the cake in my hand, this time, I was extra careful not to trip. Feeling happy and proud that I had creatively solved the problem, I placed the cake on the dining table just as the party began. No one even noticed that it wasn’t from a bakery.

When my sister arrived home, she was overwhelmed with joy at the surprise waiting for her. Seeing her burst with happiness made all the effort worthwhile.

I glanced at Aunty Amna who had also been invited to the party. We exchanged a knowing wink, sharing a silent moment of triumph — our secret was safe. And with that, the party began.
