The joys of giving are many. But have you ever regretted giving something to someone? Maybe it was a gift, something material, or just your time?

I have regretted giving gifts to people at times. I know some of you may relate to the feeling I went through; it’s kind of a negative one which we often don’t want to discuss or bring into conversation. Whenever you are being generous, there is this hidden guilt feeling. You feel like you could have retained it for yourself.

However, when seen from a different perspective, giving is not just an act — it’s a way to create a meaningful impact in someone’s life.

Just like giving, forgiving is another powerful act that brings healing and peace. Forgiving someone who has wronged us is one of the hardest things to do. Yet, in doing so, we find deep satisfaction and a sense of freedom from the burden of resentment. Giving and forgiving should both hold a significant place in our lives. Never regret giving something to someone, as it not only benefits them but also nurtures our mental well-being.

Frances Hodgson Burnett beautifully expressed this sentiment: “If nature has made you a giver, your hands are born open and so is your heart, and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full.”

This quote highlights the warmth and joy that come with giving. Whether it’s offering your time, brightening someone’s day, making them smile, easing their burden, or sharing heartfelt advice — every act of kindness matters. What truly counts is the sincerity and earnestness behind it.

Giving is also a path to receiving abundance, but it should never be done with the expectation of getting something in return — true giving is selfless.

People like Abdus Sattar Edhi devoted their entire lives to serving others, setting an extraordinary example of generosity. While we may not reach such a level, we can still give in small, meaningful ways every day.

Lao Tzu beautifully expressed this idea: “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”

So, be generous — give freely, without hesitation, and let kindness flow effortlessly from your heart.
