BAHAWALPUR: A woman and her minor daughter suffered serious burns allegedly when unidentified persons threw acid on them while they were asleep in their house at Wahianwali Thokar village in Ahmedpur East tehsil on Wednesday night.

According to Rescue 1122, Ahmedpur East, Shaheena (45) and her daughter Muskan (9) were asleep when unidentified attackers sneaked into their house, threw acid on them and fled away. They suffered serious burns and were shifted to the THQ hospital.

Ahmedpur East Saddar police on being informed of the incident reached the scene, collected evidence and registered a case against the unidentified attackers, without any arrest yet.

RAPE BID: Burewala Saddar police claimed to have arrested two suspects on Thursday for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl student while she was returning home from her school at Chak 451/EB, Basti Bhaganwali.

According to police, victim’s father Sharaft Ali said in his complaint that his daughter K was coming back from school when the suspect lured her to a house and attempted to rape her while his accomplice stood guard.

He said that on being informed that the suspect had taken away his daughter, he along with others rushed to the place. On seeing them, the suspects managed to flee.

The police claimed to have arrested the suspects and registered a case under sections 376 and 511 of the PPC against them.

WOMAN TORTURED: Burewala city police have arrested a man for allegedly subjecting his daughter-in-law to torture and cutting her hair.

As per police, the suspect, Arshad, allegedly subjected his daughter-in-law Rubina to severe torture and cut her hair with a pair of scissors over a domestic issue.

The police arrested the suspect and put him in the lock-up.

APCA SIT-IN: All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) activists on Thursday staged a sit-in in Canal Colony here to press for the acceptance of their demands.

According to protesters, including Fakhrur Rehman Azhar, divisional secretary general of APCA, their demands include the rollback of the policy of privatisation of government schools, withdrawal of amendments in pension rules and the decision to deprive children of government employees of jobs in place of their deceased parents.

They also demanded the restoration of the leave encashment scheme and an increase in their salaries.

WALK: The environment protection department organised a walk in Bahawalpur to create awareness about climate change.

The walk, led by Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooq, was largely participated by students, civil society members, government officials and the visiting probationers from the Civil Services Academy, Lahore.
