TAXILA: As many as 50 deserving families in Attock were given the ‘Chief Minister’s Minority Cards’ at a function held at the district council hall in the Attock city on Tuesday.

On the instruction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a total of 550 families in the district would be provided the cards.

The event was attended by representatives of Hindu, Sikh, Christian and other communities. PML-N district President Saleem Shahzad, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Nosheen Asrar and officials from various government departments were also present.

PML-N leader Malik Hameed Akbar Khan distributed the cards among members of the minority community. The cards were issued after biometric verification and each recipient will get a monthly payment of Rs10,500.

Addressing the participants, the additional DC said the minority card initiative was aimed at alleviating the economic hardships faced by the minority community.

Hameed Akbar Khan said minorities play an equal role in the development and progress of Pakistan and their contributions were vital for the nation’s future.

Mr Khan said the Punjab government attaches priority to protect the minority community and improve their living standard.

“It is our duty to safeguard the rights of minorities and improve their lives.” He added that under the guidance of the chief minister, financial assistance will be provided to the deserving and underprivileged individuals.
