HYDERABAD, April 24: The District and Sessions Judge, Hyderabad, on Monday concluded the inquiry of arrest of three children by Qasimabad police and submitted the report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan through fax.

When approached by newsmen, the inquiry officer declined to disclose his findings, saying that the Supreme Court could make public recommendations made in his report. The journalists were told in the court that they could only observe proceedings but could not take notes.

The court recorded statements of Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-I Nadeem Zafar Hashmi, SP Investigations Khalid Mustafa Korai, former SHO Rafiq Awan, investigating officer, Khalil Shah, three children Muzamil Solangi, Asad Khaskheli and his younger brother Saeed and their mother Zahoora. Other suspended police officials of Qasimabad and Bhittai Nagar police stations were also present in the court.

The Qasimabad police claimed that the children were handed over by complainants of two separate theft cases. Saeed was released because he was a minor while one of the accused was remanded to judicial custody by the Judicial Magistrate-I. Taking notice of media reports of the case the sessions judge was ordered by the apex court on April 18 to ensure release of children. He visited Qasimabad police station and accepted surety of Muzamil Solangi while Asad was released the following day by central jail administration.

Two cases vide FIR Nos 59 and 60 were lodged by complainants, Abdul Fatah Memon and Syed Manzoor Ali Shah with Qasimabad police.

CONDEMNED: Reacting to the statement of President Musharraf that the people of Sindh could not advance any plausible arguments against Kalabagh Dam, the Sindh National Council has said that General Musharraf is threatening Sindh on the basis of support from Punjab.
