HYDERABAD: The ICC Champions Trophy made a stop at the Hyderabad’s Niaz Stadium during its Trophy Tour on Wednesday, as Pakistan gears up to host the tournament from Feb 19.

The trophy was displayed in the stadium’s outfield for a photo shoot and young cricketers were thrilled to see it up close.

“I just wish that our team should win the trophy this year as our country is hosting the event,” said 13-year-old Ahaan Khan.

The stadium undergoing renovation work, initiated by Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro, which includes upgrades to the enclosures and a new pavilion building.

The visit has rekindled hopes for international cricket’s return to the venue, which last hosted an ODI in 2008 when Pakistan side defeated Zimbabwe. Pakistan remains unbeaten at the venue in both ODIs and Tests.

“Maybe the arrival of the trophy will bring international cricket back to our city,” youngster Faraz Ali said. “We hope to see the Pakistan team playing here in front of us soon.”
