KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has asked the civic and security authorities to take all-out measures in the metropolis ahead of the multinational naval exercise, Aman 2025.

Mr Shah presided over a meeting here at the CM House to discuss preparations for the Aman Exercise & Dialogue, which is set to begin from Feb 7.

The meeting was attended by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Commander Karachi (Comkar) Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal, the home secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), Karachi commissioner, provincial secretaries and senior officials from the navy, Rangers and other relevant organisations.

The Comkar provided an overview of the Aman Exercise & Dialogue and said that the event is scheduled to take place from Feb 7 to Feb 11.

He said the event would see the participation of 56 countries and numerous naval chiefs.

The CM emphasised the importance of the mega event for Karachi and assured that his government would warmly welcome all visiting delegates.

He instructed the Karachi Mayor to ensure that all necessary facilities were in place before the event.

He specifically directed improvements in the city’s streetlights, sewerage system, road repairs and cleanliness. In addition, necessary security measures have been outlined for the event.

The CM directed the IGP to make necessary security arrangements in consultation with the navy.

“The Aman event is our initiative, and it will be organised grandly,” he affirmed. According to the navy, the key feature of the ninth edition of Aman exercise will be the Aman Dialogue, where chiefs of naval forces, heads of coast guards and senior leaders from around the world will convene to discuss regional maritime security and devise joint strategies to counter evolving maritime threats.

The Aman series has been a hallmark of the navy’s efforts to promote regional peace and cooperation.

Launched in 2007, the inaugural exercise saw the participation of 28 countries. By 2023, the number of participating nations had grown to 50, including major naval powers. The motto of the Aman series, ‘Together for Peace’, reflects its core mission, while this year’s theme, ‘Secure Seas; Prosperous Future’, emphasises the importance of maritime security for global prosperity.
