KARACHI, April 21: Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has ordered formation of special teams for eliminating encroachments in Manghopir and Deh Malkani areas, especially from beautiful tourist spots and hillocks and to check emergence of further encroachments.

He directed that a feasibility report be prepared for constructing Manghopir Road double track up to Northern Bypass.

On Friday, the Nazim visited the area for four hours along with a noted Malaysian company and local consultants during which proposals were considered for better utilization of beautiful hillocks and other possible tourist spots for people.

It was informed that illegal factories and more than 10 buffalow yards have been removed from the area and a special team, headed by DDO Gadap Dr Saifur Rehman, has been set up to check further encroachments. It visits the area daily and if any new encroachment is spotted, it is removed immediately.

However, Nazim was told that stone is being taken out from some hillocks which is affecting their beauty.

The Nazim directed that steps be taken to stop this activity and extraction of stone be banned under legal provisions.

He said that a project for constructing a beautiful hillpark over 1000 acres in the hilly area of Manghopir is already under consideration.

He said that usage of this area would help provide people of Karachi a new quality recreational place in the city.

ROAD PROJECT: The construction work of I.I. Chundrigar Road will start from mid-May and it will be completed as per international standard in a short span of time at a cost of Rs226 million.

This was stated in a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal in which development works of ongoing and new projects were reviewed.

The meeting was informed that Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road, which was under construction, would be opened for traffic on May 10 after its completion.

Thereafter, the construction of Chundrigar Road would start and Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road would be used as an alternate.—APP
