GWADAR: One man was killed as security forces thwarted an incursion into the residence of Gwadar deputy commissioner, police said on Saturday.

A suspect tried to enter the deputy commissioner’s official residence between Friday and Saturday, the police said, adding that guards deployed at the house fired blank shots to stop the man.

Following the gunfire, the suspect, identified as Samiullah, entered a mosque located in front of the DC house and returned fire when security personnel tried to enter the mosque.

The suspect also threatened to blow himself up and made announcements on the mosque’s loudspeaker.

In the meantime, a man who claimed to be the suspect’s relative arrived at the scene and told the police he was mentally unstable.

The man entered the mosque to convince the attacker to surrender. However, the suspect, hiding in the mosque, attacked him with a knife and killed him.

The victim was identified as Rehmatullah.

Gwadar SSP Zia Mandokhail said the suspect and the deceased were relatives and belonged to Qila Abdullah.

They were running a shop in front of the DC house.

“We have arrested the suspect along with the knife,” SSP Mandokhail said.

The body of the deceased was sent to his native village, and further investigation was in progress.
