SUKKUR: A man shot dead his wife reportedly in the name of honour in Shah Jalil village near Sultankot town, 14 kilometres from Shikarpur, on Wednesday.

Villagers told reporters Zameer Marfani accused his 27-year-old wife Ms Khanzadi of being kari and killed her. The suspected killer managed to escape from the village before the area police reached crime scene.

Police took the body into their custody and shifted it to Sultankot Rural Health Centre for post mortem examination. The body was handed over to heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Police officials said that they would arrest the alleged killer soon. Police would register a case on behalf of state if no one from the bereaved family came forward to file the FIR against the suspect, they said.
