MUZAFFARGARH: Under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ (Clean Punjab) programme, initiated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, services from the private sector have been engaged for garbage collection and disposal in cities and rural areas.

An agreement was finalised with Daewoo, set to commence operations on Jan 24, with the system going online by Jan 26.

This was announced by Deputy Commissioner Qurat ul Ain during a meeting with officials from Daewoo and related departments.

The DC said the company should appoint a supervisor at the union council level who would work with the UC secretary.

She directed the company officials to recruit local people and make the recruitment process very transparent and recruit working people on merit.

She said a report on the funds spent so far should be submitted. She directed assistant commissioners to monitor all matters and guide the company.

Representatives of the Daewoo Bus Service, said that a survey was underway at the district headquarters, tehsils and union council levels, which would be completed soon and work would start from Jan 24 as per the schedule.

They said discussions were also underway to rent machinery and appropriate steps were being taken to hire sanitary workers.

BURNT: A two-year old child suffered burns when he fell into a stove while playing at his home on Monday in Khanpur Bagga Sher, some 15 kilometers away from city area.

According to the family, the child, Muhammad Zeeshan, suffered burns when he accidentally fell into the stove.

A rescue team was dispatched to the scene and officials confirmed that the child had been burned in the incident. He was later shifted to the hospital in a critical condition.
