LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum on Thursday expressed her displeasure over police officers making TikTok videos about missing girls and uploading them on social media.

“How police officers engaged in such activities [making video clips] would trace the missing girls,” the chief justice questioned, hearing a petition filed by a woman, Salma Bibi, seeking recovery of her allegedly missing daughter.

The chief justice also expressed dissatisfaction with the committee formed to recover the missing girls and summoned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Karim in person on Nov 11.

Earlier, police officials, including Punjab DIG (Crimes) Ali Janbaz and DIG (Legal) Awais Malik, appeared before the court.

A law officer submitted a report on cases involving the abduction and recovery of girls.

He said the police recovered 2,810 girls, while 452 remained missing, adding that four of the outstanding cases dated back to 2021.

“Where would police look for the cases registered in 2021? We are now in 2026. We cannot wait until 2032 to examine cases registered in 2024,” Chief Justice Neelum observed.

The police officers told the court that a social media application had helped trace a considerable number of missing girls.

An officer of the investigation wing stated that most of the outstanding cases were reported from Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Nankana Sahib. The chief justice was informed that action would be taken against the police officials involved in making and uploading TikTok videos.

She adjourned further proceedings till Nov 11.
