CHITRAL: The employees of tehsil municipal administration Chitral have not received their salaries for the last five months, according to sources.

An employee of the civic body told this scribe on condition of anonymity that irregular payment of salaries was a perennial issue for them that created a lot of problems for their families, who had no other one to earn.

He said that most of the employees were low-paid and belonged to sanitation and water supply sections of TMA whose strike had paralysed the civil life last year when they left work demanding payment of their eight-month salaries.

He said that TMA employees were again planning to go on strike as majority of them lost their domestic electricity connections owing to non-payment of bills and shop keepers denied them commodities of daily use on loan.

The tehsil municipal officer could not be contacted despite repeated attempts by this scribe.

ELECTIONS: Dr Hafeezullah of botany department was elected president of Chitral University Teachers Association for a term of one year while Masood Anwar and Rizwana Biliqees were elected vice-presidents.

Other office-bearers of the association include Dr Kifayatullah general secretary and Dr Rizwanullah Khan finance secretary. Dr Mohammad Sufaid Khan, Dr Mohammad Ruman and Dr Azra Amir were elected members of executive committee of the association.

Soon after the elections, the new office-bearers were administered oath by the outgoing president of the association, Prof Basharat Hussain.
