TAXILA: Punjab Nursing Director General Tahira Shahid has announced the launching of bachelor of science in nursing specialisation in paediatrics and gynae and obstetrics classes besides establishment of examination center for LHVs at Nursing College Attock.

She expressed these views during her surprise visit to the college on Monday. Punjab Controller of Nursing Examination Board Tanzeela Ijaz and other officials of Directorate Nursing Lahore were also present on the occasion.

She also gave approval to the provision of funds for the water supply to the nursing hostel and the renovation of the staff quarters.

She urged the under-training nursing students to equip themselves with the latest health techniques to serve suffering humanity in a better way.

She stressed upon the nursing community to continue their efforts to enhance their capacity and professional skills aimed at serving humanity according to international health protocols.

She asked the nursing students to improve their professional efficiency and capacity to cope with the requirements of the modern age.

She said that in developed countries nurses have a major part in the medical profession and “if we start new courses and good trends it can help a lot to bring the nurses on par with them”.

She said the present government had a clear vision for the health sector and “we all should strive hard to translate these dreams into reality”.

She said:“Our nurses are well trained and equipped professionally to extend their services for the ailing humanity round the clock and they always work shoulder to shoulder with doctors”.

She noted that it is encouraging that the number of nurses in Pakistan has increased by 70pc over the past decade, but this number is still insufficient according to global health standards.
