RAWALPINDI: Following concern expressed by the National Commission of Human Rights, the Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar has sought a detailed report on the arrests made during PTI protest on Nov 26 and the measures taken to address the concerns shown by the NCHR.

According to sources, the AIG Operations on behalf of IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has directed the divisional police chiefs, CPOs and DPOs across the province to send a detailed report on the arrests and the measures taken to address the concern of the commission.

The NCHR had urged the police authorities to ensure that all detainees must be treated in accordance with the law and their fundamental rights must be respected.

There should be no torture, inhuman or degrading treatment of any individual in custody.

Immediate measures should be taken to verify and release those arrested without just cause or evidence of unlawful activity.

The commission had further said that the process of investigation must be impartial and transparent, ensuring that no individual is unfairly targeted or treated.

The commission has sought the report from the Punjab and Islamabad capital territory police regarding the arrests of PTI protesters on November 26.
