LOWER DIR: A total of 2,300 policemen and 230 Dir Levies officials, who performed security duty during the anti-polio campaigns, on Monday complained that they had not been paid the duty allowance for three drives.

Requesting anonymity, some police officials told reporters that they had performed security duties amid threats to their life, but they had not received any allowance. They said the non-payment for such a long time had caused them unrest.

According to media reports, a total of 20 police officials were killed in attacks during the anti-polio campaigns across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year.

Meanwhile, district police officer Salim Abbas Kulachi told Dawn that the officials who performed polio duty would soon be paid for one campaign. “The police high-ups have assured us to ensure early payment of polio duty allowance to police officials.”
