LOWER DIR: Samarbagh village council chairmen, who are also tehsil councillors, here on Wednesday demanded of government to provide the council with adequate development funds.

The demand was made during a meeting of tehsil councillors with tehsil chairman Saeed Ahmad Bacha in the chair. The participants of the meeting expressed serious concerns over non-availability of development funds and lack of powers.

Through a joint resolution, they demanded of government to immediately award powers to tehsil chairmen and ensure proper distribution of development funds.

Speaking on the occasion, Saeed Ahmed Pacha said that it was unacceptable for them that government was ignoring tehsil councils and their chairmen. He said that it was necessary to give powers to elected representatives to solve the problems of people.

The participants of the meeting decided to stage a sit-in in Peshawar on December 26 if government failed to accept their demands.

ARREST: Ouch police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man and recovered Rs3.7 million from his possession. They said that the suspect identified as Islam Mohmmad, a house worker, had stolen gold worth millions of rupees from his employer Fahad Hafeez’s house a few days ago.

Meanwhile, Lal Qila police recovered 111 precious timber logs and arrested a man identified as Bacha Khan in Maidan area of Lower Dir. A case was sent to forest department for further necessary action.

Similarly, Munda police foiled a bid of timber smuggling and recovered five wooden logs from a vehicle. The accused was arrested.

TRAINING: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Young Teachers Association (YTA) here on Wednesday demanded of government to immediately reschedule their training programme in the schools falling in winter zone.

Talking to journalists in Chakdara, YTA provincial president Attaur Rehman rejected the government plan to conduct teachers’ induction training in the months of January and February during winter vacations.

He said that it was difficult for teachers to attend training sessions in snow-bound areas. He said that the programme should be completed in 24 days or should be conducted online.
