KARACHI, April 17: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, urged the government on Monday to take effective measures to curb the spread of bird flu.

Expressing concern over the detection of the bird flu virus in the NWFP and Islamabad, Mr Hussain said if at all people wanted to eat chicken, they must ensure that the meat was properly cooked.

He also urged the public to avoid eating half-fried and half-boiled eggs.

Those handling raw chicken meat, he said in a statement issued from London, should wash their hands with a detergent of good quality.
