SUKKUR: A speeding car carrying five men plunged into an irrigation channel in Khanpur Mahar town of Ghotki district on Friday resulting the death of three occupants. The driver and another man managed to swim to safety.

According to the locals who gathered at the accident site the driver, Khuda Bakhsh Solangi, and the other survivor, Jami Solangi alias Loung, struggled successfully to come out of the car and swim to safety while it was sinking. However, the three other persons, Mocharo Mahar, Wajahat Juno and Ilyas Mangrio remained trapped inside until the vehicle went deep down the water.

Mocharo was a resident of Khanpur Mahar, Wajahat lived in Ranipur and Ilyas belonged to Thakratho village.

They had started their journey from Khanpur Mahar town and were destined for Sardar Garh, where they intended to attend a wedding ceremony, according to the survivors.

The accident took place along a bypass over Bambli Wah, an irrigation channel.

Soon after the incident, locals started rescue work and a group of divers among them managed to take out the three bodies while some others rushed the survivors to the Shaikh Hamadan bin Mohammad Hospital in Khanpur Mahar.

Separately, a man was arrested by the Shikarpur police on Friday on suspicion of having killed his friend and dumped his body in a garden.

During a preliminary inquiry, the police came to know that Raza Mohammad Shaikh had a monetary dispute with Mohsin alias Gul Dayo, whose body was recovered from Alvi Bagh, within the jurisdiction of the Lakhidar police station, earlier in the day.

Shikarpur SSP Shahzeb Chachar asked Lakhidar SHO Tariq Hussain Khoso for a speedy investigation.

The initial inquiry suggested that suspect Raza and victim Mohsin were partners in a mobile phones business and the former had to pay an amount of around Rs1m to the latter.
