Some animated films are just fun, while others deliver a strong message. 10 Lives is one of those rare movies that combine both. This animated film explores themes of self-discovery, redemption and the value of relationships.

The story of 10 Lives follows Beckett, a self-centred tabby cat repeatedly reincarnated in different forms. Beckett balances Garfield’s laziness and Puss in Boots’ adventurous spirit. We all have a Beckett in us, who likes the best for himself.

Rose (Simone Ashley), a scientist dedicated to saving the world’s bee population, adopts Beckett. Soon, her lab partner Larry (Dylan Llewellyn) shows up with a plan for a serum that cures diseases in the bee population. Like a true scientist, Rose sticks to work. Her boss, Professor Craven, tries to sabotage her project for nefarious reasons, but Beckett comes in the way in various forms.

Already losing its penultimate life for a selfish reason, Beckett is allowed by the ‘Gatekeeper’ to return to earth with a whole new set of lives. Beckett returns as a horse, cockroach, parrot, dog, fish, rat and more — each form bringing new adventures.

Voiced by Mo Gilligan, Beckett’s inner monologue scenes are hilarious, while Oscar-winner Bill Nighy shines as Professor Craven. Pop star Zayn Malik, who also wrote songs for the movie, appears as a pair of sweet goons who half-heartedly help Craven. As Cameron and Kirk, it is the first appearance of the Pakistan-British star in a film.

10 Lives is a journey that sees a selfish soul transform into a self-sacrificing hero. The film delivers a meaningful message about sustainability, with Rose’s research highlighting the importance of bees in maintaining ecological balance. It reminds us that while we only get one life, our choices can have a lasting impact.
