TOBA TEK SINGH: The D-Type Colony police booked 30 activists from rival factions of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Friday for staging opposing rallies and chanting defamatory slogans against each other on Samundri Road, Faisalabad.
According to a first information report lodged by Station House Officer (SHO) Asad Ali, the groups, led by Bilal Hassan Gujjar and Imtiaz Taji, violated Section 144 CrPC by holding public demonstrations. The rallies converged on the D-Type Colony overhead bridge, where supporters of the Taji faction allegedly defaced a flex banner of Gujjar, branding him a “thief”.
Police arrived on the scene, causing both groups to disperse. No arrests have been made.
In a separate case, the women police station arrested two people in Chak 230-RB, Faisalabad, on Friday for allegedly assaulting a woman, Nasreen Bibi, over a verbal altercation.
SHO Madeeha Irshad confirmed that a medico-legal report verified the torture, and suspects Tahir and Naazer are now in custody.
Meanwhile, Madina Town police arrested Sajid in Nemat Colony, Faisalabad, for obstructing a polio vaccination team. In a separate incident, the Batala Colony police detained Muhammad Bilal for harassing female polio workers when they were performing their work on streets.
COPS HELD: Faisalabad’s Sargodha Road police arrested four Dolphin police constables on Friday for illegally detaining two citizens and later releasing them after accepting a Rs30,000 bribe.
According to the FIR lodged by complainant Shahbaz Manzoor of Chak 60 JB, he and his cousin were staying at Hilal-i-Ahmar Hospital with a patient.
Early in the morning, they went by car to Iqbal Stadium to get breakfast, where Dolphin constable Qamar and three unidentified officers reportedly declared them suspects, publicly assaulted them and took them to Sargodha Road police station. There, the officials allegedly demanded and received Rs30,000 for their release.
BODY: Faisalabad police recovered the body of an unidentified woman, aged 42, from a sugarcane field near Abbaspur railway station in Thikriwala on Thursday.
The alleged killer was arrested on Friday.
Police received a call from Naik Ahmad of Chak 74-JB, who informed them to go to Abbaspur railway station to arrest his brother Haseeb Ahmad. Ahmad reportedly confessed that he, along with accomplice Irfan Baloch, had killed the woman two weeks ago and disposed of the body in the field.
Police are conducting raids to arrest Baloch, while they continue investigating Haseeb about the woman’s identity and motive behind the murder.
ROBBERS: Four robbers injured a couple and tortured another family member in a Gojra home on Faisalabad Road during a robbery late Thursday night.
Reports said that the assailants scaled the outer wall of Abdul Ghaffar’s residence in Sitara City. When the family resisted, the robbers opened fire, injuring Ghaffar and his wife, Perveen Bibi.
The attackers also assaulted Ghaffar’s brother, Muhammad Siddiq. The injured were shifted to THQ Hospital, with Abdul Ghaffar later referred to Faisalabad Allied Hospital.
