LAHORE: Army dominated both the men and women events as the National Swimming Championship commenced here at the International Swimming Pool in Nishtar Sports Complex on Friday.

The men’s category saw Army with five gold, six silver and one bronze medals stealing the show as seven different events were decided on the first day.

Punjab and Sindh were able to bag one gold medal apiece to kick things off followed by Higher Education Commission (HEC) with two bronze medals.

Wapda and Navy, struggling far behind the leaders, only managed to clinch one bronze medal.

Army reigned supreme in the women’s category too as they clinched two gold, one silver and bronze medals.

Sindh also had an identical medal tally as Army with two gold, one silver and a bronze but Army dominated the medal standings with the overall results.

Wapda women’s displayed an impressive showing compared to their men’s team as they bagged one gold, three silver and one bronze medals.

Punjab is in fourth place with one gold and one bronze medal while Navy follows with one silver and as many bronze. Islamabad also put their name on the board with won one bronze medal.
