KARACHI, April 7: Police on Friday rounded up over a dozen fruit-sellers from the Abul Hasan Isphani Road as part of the investigations into Thursday’s blast in which Allama Hasan Turabi had escaped unhurt.

Four persons including Allama’s son, a police guard and two pedestrians were injured when an explosive device, planted in an abandoned pushcart, went off on the Abul Hasan Isphani Road on Thursday.

Murtaza, son of Allama Turabi, police guard Mashooq Ali, and pedestrians Javed Abbas and Adil Hussain were injured in the explosion.

An FIR 85/06 under sections 427, 324/7, 8(A) on behalf of Allama Turabi was lodged at the Mubina Town police station.

Over a dozen fruit-sellers, who used to set up their pushcarts around the site of the blast, were taken into custody by police early Friday morning.

Though no one has been formally arrested in the case, police are questioning fruit-sellers of the area, who may be able to provide information about the appearance of the suspect who had planted the bomb in the pushcart on the bridge.

Talking to newsmen after the blast, Allama Hasan Turabi pointed a finger towards the proscribed outfits of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Sipah-i-Sahaba for the Thursday attack.
