KARACHI, April 7: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has condemned the harassment of Prof Naseer of the Government Commerce College Karachi and damages done to his vehicle by activists of an ethnic student organization and announced to observe black day at city educational institutes on Monday.

SPLA office-bearers at a protest meeting held at the Government Commerce College Karachi with Prof Riaz Ahsan in the chair observed that incidents of violence against teachers were growing due to no remedial action taken by the authorities.

They said that the political parties patronizing students’ organizations should look into the issue and ensure protection of life and sanctity of the teachers and further asked the city administration to take immediate remedial measures including arrest of the culprits.

The meeting decided that teachers in colleges all over the city would observe black day against the incident, hold protest meetings at respective colleges to condemn the incident and press the government for the arrest of the culprits and ensure protection of teachers at educational institutes.

Meanwhile, the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) supported the boycott of classes by teachers at the Govt. Commerce College, Karachi and alleged that it was an act of the APMSO terrorists.

IJT Karachi Secretary Hasan Hamad said that the IJT would observe a black day on April 8 and 10 at the colleges against this incident and demanded of the authorities to take preventive measures for the protection of teachers.—PPI
