KARACHI, April 6: Power supply remained suspended for hours in various localities here on Thursday despite the fact that power utility abandoned loadshedding after the power generating unit had been repaired on Wednesday.

People complained that the interruptions in electricity supply had become a routine and the power utility had failed to improve its system. The season of summer was approaching fast and the power situation was going worse ahead of the summer. They feared that the power utility would not be able to meet its promises to maintain the supply of power smooth in the summer.

Some people said that as the weather had turned hot for the past some days, an increase in the prices of diesel generators and the units of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) was witnessed.

A consumer in Defence Phase IV said that he had to purchase a UPS as his mother was sick. He said that the power discontinuation in his area was routine for an hour to two hours and sometimes it went out with intervals. He said that the new management of the power utility since taking over the charge had been claiming to bring about improvement by investing millions of rupees but nothing could be witnessed.

A resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block-20 said that power supply was discontinued from 10am to 4.30pm. The complaint numbers of the KESC remained busy or unattended and no body was there to lodge a complaint.

An infuriated consumer from Defence Phase VI said that there was power outage everyday for about one to two hours in the morning and again in the evening. She asked KESC authorities if they could justify daily power outages in her locality when they had abandoned power loadshedding.

Another citizen said that the power supply remained suspended in his locality near Korangi Crossing for three hours on Thursday from 1.15pm to 4pm and it again went away at about 7.15pm and could not be restored till late in the night.

A resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block-16 said that power supply suspended for an hour in his locality, which was the order of the day. He said that the reason of the disruptions in power supply was the weak distribution and transmission system of the KESC, as claimed by the authorities of the power utility. When they knew about the reasons, why they did not take initiatives to improve the system, he queried.

In Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 4-A, the power supply was discontinued for an hour.

A consumer from the Federal B Area said that frequent fluctuations in power supply had posed a threat to electricity appliances.
