GUJRANWALA, April 5: A scam involving issuance of fake driving licenses was allegedly unearthed here after which record of traffic police’s licensing branch was taken into custody by an ASP in a raid in which a head constable was held on Wednesday.

Reports said DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq received a tip-off about issuance of fake driving licenses by some officials of traffic police’s branch concerned besides other irregularities.

He asked city SP Abdul Qadir Qayum to conduct an inquiry into the matter following taking relevant record into custody. ASP Sadar Tanvir Ahmad raided the licensing branch and seized the records and handed it over to the city SP.

It was stated that some police officials were involved in scam while they would be taken to task if they are found guilty in an inquiry.

Traffic SP Asgher Saeed Paul said he had not yet received detail of the scam.

However, inquiry officer city SP said the alleged issuance of fake driving licenses by traffic police’s licensing branch was a serious offence, and the record had been seized to avoid any change in it.

On the basis of initial investigation, a head constable, Haider, had been held, police sources said and added that more arrests were expected in connection with the scam. educators: Provincial Education Minister Mian Imran Masood has said that around 11,000 educators will be recruited while all education boards are allowed recruitment of low-paid employees on vacant seats.

Speaking at an education board ceremony here on Wednesday, he said the Punjab government’s allocation of Rs54 billion for education for the current fiscal year would be increased to Rs62 billion in the next budget.

The minister revealed that Rs11 billion were being spent on providing better facilities to educational institutions across the province.

Lauding the Gujranwala education board progress, he said that it remained on top among eight education boards in Punjab while its chairman Col Masoodul Haq (retired) contributed enough during one year.

He said the 3,000 chairs provided to 45 educational institutions in the division for examination centres was a praise-worthy step of the board. He also distributed authority letters among heads of these institutions for getting furniture.

The board chairman said that he had visited several centres where students, including girls, were taking examination while sitting on the ground.
