SWABI: A Pakistan Air Force aircraft on a training mission crashed in the mountainous terrain of Gadoon Amazai here on Tuesday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said the pilot and his trainee successfully ejected from the aircraft through their parachutes and landed safely. The local people at the site helped them.

The officials said the crash occurred in Bar Kallay locality of Gandaf area. They said the aircraft was on a training mission and crashed suddenly when it was flying over the hills.

An official of the district administration said rescue teams and other officials reached the crash site soon despite the fact that Gadoon Amazai is a far-flung mountainous region.

He said both the pilots were slightly injured and were given first aid by a medical team of Rescue 1122. Afterwards, they were shifted to a hospital in an army helicopter, he added.

The two pilots were identified as Zarq Khan from Swabi and Uzair from Punjab.

It was not immediately known as to what caused the crash, but some officials said the crash might have occurred due to a technical fault.
