KARACHI: Haqiqi activist shot dead

KARACHI, March 30: An activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement was shot dead by unknown persons in Firdous Colony, Gulbahar, on Thursday. Police said Shabir, son of Bashir, was shot dead near a post office in Firdous Colony.

He was taken to Abbasi Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Police said that the deceased had returned from the US a week back after staying there for several years. After legal formalities, the body was handed to the family for burial.

KILLED: An under-trail prisoner was killed by a fellow inmate during a scuffle between them in Central Jail Karachi on Thursday.

Police said the dispute arose between two inmates identified as Shahzad, 24 and Waseem Haider. During the scuffle, Shahzad suffered a severe blow in the abdomen causing his death.

Police said Shahzad was facing trail in a dacoity case while Waseem was arrested in a car lifting case.

The victim was rushed to jail hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident occurred in the jail barrack called Musarrat barrack, jail authorities said.

Later, the body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination.

BURNS: A couple suffered burns when a fire broke out in hutment in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Thursday.

Police said that fire destroyed several hutments rendering several families homeless. The couple was rushed to Civil Hospital where they were admitted for treatment. The Edhi Foundation arranged food and shelter for the effected families.
