KARACHI, March 30: The Women Development Department of Sindh has planned a number of projects including conducting studies and preparing reports annually on woman trafficking.

The proposed study would cover all aspects including the economic and social factors besides other motives behind the trafficking of women from other provinces and countries to Sindh, official sources told PPI.

The women development department had proposed the finance department an allocation of Rs15 million for the project, which, however, was turned down describing it a ‘big allocation’ for such a ‘small project’. The department will now submit a fresh curtailed budget proposal, sources said.

The women development department has also prepared a Gender Reforms Action Plan suggesting fixing of quota for women in public sector employment, allocation of 20 per cent offices of ministers and advisers to women besides calling for 20 per cent of all parliamentary committees to be headed by women.—PPI
