ISLAMABAD: Two Afghan nationals were arrested after they were caught trying to get computerised national identity cards (CNICs) on the basis of forged manual national identification cards (MNICs).
A case was registered against them with Kohsar police station in response to a complaint lodged by an official of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
According to the police, two Afghans came to Nadra Service Centre in Blue Area to obtain CNICs, but their nationality status was found doubtful.
The Nadra approval officer interviewed them and marked them as ‘under verification’ as per policy. The police said during the interview, it was found that both possessed Afghan Tazkirah.
Later, they confessed to being residents of Ghazni province in Afghanistan. In Pakistan they were living in Hazara Town in Quetta, the police said, adding that it was further revealed that they were using fake MNICs of Pakistani citizens.
Following the disclosure, the police were informed, who reached the Nadra office and took the two Afghans into custody along with the documents.
Following registration of the case, they were produced in the court of a magistrate from where they were shifted to jail on 14 days judicial remand.
