LAHORE: Police investigation suggested that four suspects were involved in the murder of PTI founding member Dr Shahid Siddique two days ago.

The owner of Iqra Medical Complex in Johar Town, Dr Siddique was standing outside Khizra Mosque in Valencia Town after offering Friday prayers when an unknown man approached him and opened fire. The doctor succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a hospital.

Police have registered a case against four unidentified attackers and started an investigation.

Police also recorded statements from the family and eyewitnesses and collected video footage from CCTV cameras installed in nearby streets.

Initial investigations suggested that Dr Siddique was having a property dispute over a laboratory in Multan.

In an FIR he lodged with the Chung police some six months ago, the doctor said an unknown boy had opened fire on him but he escaped unhurt.

The investigation of this week’s attack suggested that the attacker was a professional shooter and might have been hired by any opponent of Dr Siddique.

SSP Investigation Dr Anoosh Masood said one of the attackers shot at Mr Siddique, and fled with his three accomplices who were waiting for him in a car parked in the street.

She said the family was shocked over the killing as they did not know the cause of the attack.
