QUETTA, March 25: Anjuman Ittehad Marri has alleged that dozens of Marri tribesmen and children were arrested on Friday night and Saturday morning during a raid on the New Kahan suburb of the city and stated that during shelling one Janat Ali of Kohlu was killed and two others suffered injuries.

In a statement here on Saturday, the Ittehad stated that Anti-Terrorist Force, police and intelligence staff on Friday night launched search operation and even women and children were kept outside their houses during the night. The statement claimed that fighting in Kohlu continued between the tribesmen and security forces.

Agencies add: Meanwhile, police on Saturday claimed to have arrested nearly 60 tribesmen suspected of involvement in attacks on security forces and government installations in the province.

Police detained some 57 suspects, including 24 arrested in a raid on a camp run by rebels from the Marri tribe near Quetta, city police officer Mujibur Rehman said.

Thirty-three other men were picked up during raids at different neighbourhoods, Mr Rehman said.
