KOHAT: The police recovered weapons from a car and arrested two alleged smugglers on the Indus Highway here on Sunday. The police also arrested a woman carrying five kilogrammes of hashish to Punjab at the Khushalgarh border.

According to a statement, two arms smugglers were caught on the Indus Highway while taking weapons in a car to Balochistan.

The recovered weapons included three guns, a Kalashnikov, seven pistols and thousands of cartridges.

An FIR was filed in the Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police station against the smugglers.

District police officer Umer Khan gave away commendation certificates to Havaldar Sher Nawaz, Lance Havaldar Ibrar and Constable Faisla Manan for foiling the arms smuggling bid.

Meanwhile, an official statement said that a woman smuggler, identified as Meena Gul, was taken into custody from a Rawalpindi-bound passenger coach by the policewomen in Khushalgarh area with five kilogrammes of hashish. She belonged to Attock district.

An FIR was registered in the Gumabt police station against her under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997.

Later, the woman was presented in a court of law and the judge sent her to prison.
