LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Sunday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club, demanding release of the party’s founder Imran Khan.

A large number of party workers and local leaders, includingLahore president Asghar Gujjar, MPA Farrukh Javed Moon, party ticket holders from Lahore Sardar Azeemullah Khan, Mehr Wajid, Azeem Bara, Tauqeer Khokhar and Dr Hassan Rasheed, participated in the protest carrying party flags and portraits of Imran Khan with inscription “Release Imran Khan”.

The protesters chanted slogans and made fiery speeches vowing to get rid of the rulers soon. Asghar Gujjar said the nation was no more afraid of the “fascist” government and added that Imran Khan would remain prime minister in the hearts of the people of Pakistan.

As the PTI Lahore concluded its protest, another party workers group led by Khalid Gujjar reached the press club. However, police arrested Khalid Gujjar.

Meanwhile, PTI Punjab information secretary Shaukat Basra chided Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her tirade against the judges of superior courts, saying the PML-N leaders only accept court decisions that favour them.

In a statement, Mr Basra said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and CM Maryam Nawaz had been stunned by the court decisions.

Responding to federal information minister Attaullah Tarar’s presser, the PTI spokesman said the Article 6 proceedings should be launched against those who did not hold elections within 90 days after the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved, including caretaker prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, Punjab interim chief minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
