Israeli Army Radio has said its military targeted Hamas’ military chief in a strike on Khan Younis in Gaza that the enclave’s health ministry says killed at least 20 Palestinians, Reuters reports.

Army Radio said it was unclear whether Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif was killed. The Israeli military said it was looking into the report.

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official said the Israeli Army Radio report that the strike had targeted Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif was “nonsense”.

“All the martyrs are civilians and what happened was a grave escalation of the war of genocide, backed by the American support and world silence,” Abu Zuhri told Reuters, adding that the attack showed Israel was not interested in reaching a ceasefire agreement.
