ISLAMABAD: A case has been registered against a police official for arresting two women and keeping them in custody in connection with a murder case without any concrete evidence, police said on Tuesday.

The police official was investigating the murder case registered on June 7, 2004, at the Sumbal police station.

There was a monetary dispute between two persons. The police said Raja Zahid had sold a four-kanal house to Adnan Khan and the latter had paid Rs4 million in advance but failed to clear the dues within the given time despite getting possession of the house.

He also issued a cheque for Rs2 million to Zahid which was bounced. As a result, a case was registered against Adnan at the Humak police station and the police arrested him. In response, the relatives of Adnan, including some women, armed with weapons raided Zahid’s office and opened fire.

During the firing, Zahid’s employee Wahid was killed and three other persons were injured. Police later raided the house of Adnan and recovered two rifles and arrested his two guards and two women.

One of the women was sent to jail on judicial remand on June 14 while the other was discharged from the case on June 16.

During inspection of the case file on June 16, in-charge investigation SI Meherullah and Station House officer (SHO) Humak Nadeem Tahir found that the investigation officer (an inspector) had taken the two women in police custody without any concrete evidence.

The issue was brought in the knowledge of a senior officer who called the IO to his office and asked him to justify the arrest of the women. The IO failed to satisfy the senior officer after the latter ordered registration of a case against him. The IO was arrested after a case was registered against him under section 155-C of Police Order 2002.
