KARACHI, March 21: The Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) has invited nominations for the first Aslam Ali Press Freedom Award. The award is named after late Aslam Ali, founding Trustee of PPF. Instituted by the PPF with the support of Unesco, it carries cash award of Rs one lakh and will be announced on May 3 to coincide with the World Press Freedom Day.

It is intended to honour a person, organization or institution that has made notable contribution to the defense, and-or promotion of press freedom in Pakistan.

Individuals, professional and non-governmental organizations working in the fields of media and human rights are invited to send nominations for the award.

The jury for award will comprise six eminent journalists, academics and human rights experts. Three jury members will be nominated by PPF and three by Unesco, Islamabad.

Nominations are to be submitted by April 15 to the coordinator, Aslam Ali Press Freedom Award, Pakistan Press Foundation, Press Centre, Shahrah Kamal Ataturk (Web: www.pakistanpressfound).
