KARACHI: The eighth death anniversary of qawwali maestro Amjad Sabri was observed on Saturday.

Sabri was shot dead on June 22, 2016 by unidentified assailants near his home in Liaquatabad. Later, a military court had sentenced two Lashkar-i-Jhangvi militants to death on charges of their involvement in the murder.

Talking to Dawn, a family member of the late musician said that the Quran khwani was held at his place in Liaquatabad.

Earlier, members of the family visited the gravesite of the late qawwal in the Paposhnagar graveyard to offer fateha. Arrangements were also made for the langar.

Amjad, son of renowned qawwal Ghulam Farid Sabri and nephew of Maqbool Sabri, was one of the most sought-after qawwals of the country.

Some of his most famous qawwalis were Tajdar-i-Haram and Bhar Do Jholi. He was awarded Pride of Performance and Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his meritorious services in the field of Sufi music, according to APP.
