CHITRAL: All four teams of Chitral region for the upcoming Shandur Polo Festival have been finalised.

The three-day annual sports event will begin on June 28 at the world’s highest polo ground, showcasing the skills of talented players from Chitral.

The teams were notified by the office of Lower Chitral district’s deputy commissioner here the other day.

Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk leads the ‘Team A’ that comprises Israr Wali Khan, Shahzad Ahmad Shaji, Amir Hamza, Izhar Ali Khan, Mohammad Ilyas, Adnan, Imran Khan, Mirajuddin and Nasirullah.

The ‘Team B’ consists of Asghar Hussain alias Body (captain), Arbab Quli, Muhsinul Mulk, Hameedul Mulk, Maqsoodur Rehman, Alhaj Khan, Asif, Irfan Ali and Asghar Jalal, while Shameem Ahmed (captain), Ziaur Rehman, Azahr Sohail, Sher Nadeem, Junaid Ali Shah and Haroon Ali Shah will play for the ‘Team C.’

The ‘Team D’ will comprise Imaduddin (captain), Shazada Naeem, Waseem, Raza Quli, Islam Nabi and Umer Ali Shah.

Chitral Polo Association president Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk told Dawn that eight to 10 players were selected for every team and six of them would be selected a day before the start of the match.

“All nominated players will leave Chitral for Shandur on Friday [today],” he said.
