BAJAUR/KOHAT: Residents of several areas of Bajaur tribal district and Kohat celebrated Eidul Azha on Sunday to follow Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, most people of War Mamond, Lowi Mamond, Nawagai and Salarzai tehsils opted to celebrate Eidul Azha with Saudi Arabia.

The people of these areas told Dawn that most of them had already decided to celebrate Eid with Saudi Arabia as usual.

However, some made the decision to celebrate the Eid on Sunday after local religious leaders and prayer leaders made announcements to this respect in mosques on Saturday night.

On the other hand, residents of Khar, Utmankhel and Barang tehsils will celebrate the Eid with rest of the country on Monday (today).

Meanwhile, the police have finalised security plan for the Eid days across the district.

According to a statement, besides deployment of additional police personnel in major bazaars and important places from Sunday, up to four policemen would be performing their duties outside the major mosques and Eidgahs on the Eid day.

The statement said that around 1,700 policemen were taking part in the Eid security measures. Besides, vacations of most of the policemen had been cancelled.

In Kohat, people of Junglekhel celebrated Eidul Azha and sacrificed animals to mark the festival on Sunday, coinciding with Saudi Arabia.

Bilal, a resident of Junglekhel, said that after the Day of Arafat culminating in Haj, they observed the Eid following the practice with Saudi Arabia.
