TAXILA: A court on Friday sentenced a man to nine-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs80,000 in a drug peddling case.

Mohammad Mustafa was arrested by Rango police in the case registered under section 9-C of Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997 after recovery of hashish from his custody in 2023.

The Judge after hearing the arguments of both sides announced the verdict.

Meanwhile, a team of anti-car lifting cell (ACLC) of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) escaped firing from a gang of car lifters in the limits of Wah Saddar police station on Friday.

Inspector Yasir Mehmood while lodging FIR against the car lifter gang has said that some cops of ACLC spotted the ringleader, who runs a car lifting gang, in the area near Shareef hospital on G.T. Road and started chasing them.

He added that the gang attempted to lift a car parked outside a house in Lalarukh and meanwhile tried to intercept them but looking at the police party, the members of the car lifting gang opened firing at the police party with sophisticated weapons but the police team narrowly escaped unhurt.

Later, the members of the car lifting gang including Ilyas, Islam Gul, Nasir and Abdul Razzaq managed to escape .

According to the police spokesman, the car recovered from car lifters was lifted from Hazro police station.

The police spokesman said the gang was involved in lifting a number of vehicles in the area during the last many months.
